"An Ember in the Ashes" By Sabaa Tahir

— feeling amazing
An Ember in the Ashes - Sabaa Tahir

I have just recently finished "An Ember in the Ashes" By Sabaa Tahir and it was absolutely amazing. I am not one to read a lot expect for my minimum reading assignment, but this book was so good I read almost all of it in one night! The book is unique because it switches between two characters every chapter, Laia and Elias.

Laia is a young girl who lives in The Empire. Her mother and father died so she lives with her Grandma and Grandpa and brother, Darin. Lately her brother has been coming home late every day, and he carries a sketchbook with him. The Masks, also known as students from Blackcliff academy want Darin's sketchbook. They decide to attack Laia's home, causing her to run away from home, and into Serra's catacombs, were she hopes to find someone to help her.

Elias is a student at Blackcliff academy, a Fiver and the son and next in line of the Commandment, a powerful women in charge of Blackcliff. Elias hates being a Mask, so he has been planning to escape Blackcliff for months. But at the night of his ceremony, he runs into a Auger, a immortal, mind-reading, "God."  The Auger knew Elias was planning to escape, and gave Elias his advice. "You are an ember in the ashes, Elias Veturius. You will spark and burn, ravage and destroy. You cannot change it. You cannot stop it.”

I give this book 5 stars because it always kept me on the edge of my seat, and made me want to read more. I would recommend this to people who likes fight scenes, drama a little romance, lots of plot twists and lovable characters. This book made me feel like I was actually there. Another little detail that makes this book amazing is that it includes a map of Blackcliff academy and The Empire, I love when books have maps in them.
